#Quito, capital of the Republic of #Ecuador, is the oldest capital of South America. Located on the basin of Guayllabamba, on the eastern slopes of the Pichincha volcano. In 2008, Quito was named headquarters of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), it was declared by #UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Its foundation was given the December 6, 1534.
In #Quito there are several churches and chapels in which the remains of historical figures of #Ecuador rests. Eugenio Espejo, is in the chapel of San José, located next to the convent of Tejar. Antonio José de Sucre, Gabriel García Moreno and Juan Jose Flores, are in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Quito, located next to the Plaza de la Independencia. Manuel Caamaño Jijón is in the Basilica of the National Vote, located in San Juan.
