1. We have put the cart before the horse. We've focused so much on controlling behavior that we've failed to address the larger need that might be causing it.
And no, it doesn't matter whether they are young or old. There is NO AGE LIMIT to brain plasticity. Our brains can keep changing and growing right up to the day we die.
People who continue to struggle to make sense of a world that baffles their brain and traumatizes their body. (Neurology and physiology are closely related, so if we fix one, the other will improve as well.)
