Balena, Chicago. Chicago critics like Tagliolini nero. 1633 N. Halstead. This is like the movie "Titanic" for me--a hit that everyone loves so much that reality just can't live up to your expectations. Homemade pasta was drowning in sauce with certain flavors (lemon, black pepper) dominating. Waiter was snooty about us only wanting to spend $45 on what was at most a $20 bottle of wine. Too many really great laid back places to put up with that ("ain't nobody got time fo' dat!")
Gramercy Tavern is the king of farm-to-table cuisine in New York City. The front room is one of the best places in New York for a leisurely lunch, or a romantic#nydesign #nydesignagenda #nyrestaurants meal during the week.
