Grove Tavern, Queen's Bridge Road, Meadows, 1973 The Grove Tavern on the corner of Queen's Bridge Road and Queen's Grove. The latter (to the right here) was a cul-de-sac of terraced dwellings almost entirely surrounded by industry. The art deco style pub had been built by the Nottingham Brewery Company in 1937 to replace an earlier structure. By June 2011, Queen's Grove had been demolished only a  stub of  road giving access to commercial premises, & the pub renamed the Vat & Fiddle

1845  London Road in Nottingham became the first road to be covered with tarmac (tarmacadam). Before this people had to suffer with roads made from cobbles ( round stones) and pot holes.
