First, slide plant out of its pot. Wet a 6-inch length of cotton clothesline. Thread one end through hole in pot, leaving an inch inside; return plant to pot. Cut off top of a plastic water bottle big enough so potted plant fits inside with at least 4 inches of space below. Fill space with 3 inches of water. Water plant normally to get self-watering system started.
