The Imperial State Crown (1937) is worn by the Queen at each State Opening of Parliament. One of the youngest crowns in the collection, it holds a number of much older gems. The crown was remade in 1937 after the previous frame weakened under the weight of the gemstones.
Queen Victoria’s Diamond Crown. Ordered by Queen Victoria for her personal use, 1187 diamonds all came from a necklace she owned. She found the Imperial State Crown too heavy & could not be used with her mourning veil, and very much resented the complicated procedures involved when removing the crown from the Tower of London.
