Insignia of the Order of the Elephant, 19th century, This pendant in white enameled gold is the insignia of the Danish Order of the Elephant. Founded in 1478 by King Christian I, the order is still in existence today. The elephant is worn on a necklace during its ceremonies.
Star of The Order of St. Catherine. In gold around it reads (in Russian) "For Love, and for Fatherland." Empress Alexandra and all four of the Grand Duchesses took their sashes with the badges and stars with them into exile in Siberia. They were recovered in 1933. The Empress is the Grand Mistress for life. Therefore, the Dowager Empress Marie who escaped the Revolution with her life was the Grand Mistress.
