Plague Masks. During the period of the Black Death and the Great Plague of London, plague doctors visited victims of the plague to verify whether they have been afflicted or not. The beak was stuffed with spices or herbs to "purify" the air that the doctor breathed. I think I've figured out what the Hell is happening in this photograph: The guy wearing the horned mask is supposed to be "Krampus" who was an old "sidekick" of Santa Claus that punished naughty children with beatings using switches (in the guys left hand). Can anyone verify this?
