Aaron Copland (1900-1990) is one of the greatest American composers. As a child he began to study piano; had lessons in harmony and counterpoint with composer Goldmark and began to compose, and later joined the US Conservatory in France. There he studied composition and orchestration with pedagogue Ms.Boulanger. He returned in 1924 and acted as pianist and lecturer. His "Music for the Theater" got the ear of Koussevitzky, who conducted its 1st performance with the Boston Symphony in 1925.
