Siddhartha Mukherjee is a Harvard Med School grad who is now in Oncology at Columbia. I really enjoyed his book talk at the Harvard Book Store last year, shortly after The Emperor of All Maladies was released. Though it was written by a medical doctor, this "biography of cancer" reads less like a medical text and more like a story which makes it interesting to any audience.

The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee ($13.11) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003UYUP58/hpb2-20/ASIN/B003UYUP58 This book is extremely interesting, and very well written. - Dr Mukherjee makes the history, lives and cancer itself real and tells powerful stories throughout the book. - The history is fascinating, the science is surprising and the human stories absorbing.
