In 1845, the State of Ohio purchased a 50-acre quarry located on the west bank of the Scioto River. The Columbus Limestone from this quarry was used in the construction process of the Ohio Statehouse, Ohio Penitentiary, the first Broad Street Bridge and other governmental buildings around Downtown Columbus. As a result, many of these Columbus landmarks flourish with fossils like these.  #Columbus #Ohio
