The City of Malolos is about 45 km north of Manila, and was the site of the constitutional convention of 1898 --- known as the Malolos Convention --- that led to the establishment of the First Philippine Republic, the first republic in Asia. Their canoe has outriggers, which is an ancient invention that allowed early Austronesians to cross vast ocean stretches and populate island after island.
