Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, and Anne of the Island have been read over and over and over again. I think the first one is my favorite because heedless, romantic, optimistic Anne is constantly getting herself in trouble and the results are hilarious. The next two books are still funny but Anne learns prudence as she gets older, so her mistakes aren't quite as childish. Overall just warm, good-hearted novels.
Em Gold is in love and everything in her life is wonderful, until she finds out she is pregnant and decides she cannot live. She persuades her boyfriend to shoot her, and this story explores the family histories and court room scene when he is accused.
