#DailyDevo | Psalm 19:1-6 | Many people today talk of profoundly encountering God in nature, rather in their practice of religion. Psalms like this remind us that we are not separate from nature, but rather that we join with nature in giving praise to the one from whom it has all come forth. From a single molecule of water, to the trees waltzing in the breeze, to the arm of our galaxy spinning and whirling at warp speed - we are all singing the same song, to the rhythm of the Christ.

#DailyDevo | Proverbs 25:8-10 | When we have been wronged by someone, we have a choice in how we respond. Often, we choose to seek revenge or seek to make him or her look bad. Our desire becomes to paint them as inferior in order to make us appear superior. The sin is then not just on the other person, but also on us, because we have put our pride before God's instruction on justice. Be slow to anger, and wise in seeking out those who have wronged you in a careful and gracious way.

#DailyDevo | Psalm 64 | Many of the Psalms are a plea for God to help them avoid suffering. Many of our prayers are often of the same theme - we thank God when things are going well, and ask for nothing unpleasant to happen. It's natural to want to avoid suffering - but if suffering were avoided, we wouldn't have these Psalms! They can only be the words of people who have suffered, and found meaning in sharing their story. What if we followed the same model, that instead of simply avoiding…

#DailyDevo | Proverbs 3:13-21-26 | What is security? A guarantee of physical safety? A life insurance policy? A healthy retirement account or pension? Or is security about something much deeper, and harder to quantify? Security is learning to place complete trust in God's wisdom for your life. It is about knowing, not just wishfully believing, that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purposes.

#DailyDevo | 1 Samuel 3:10-20 | Sometimes the word that God calls us to speak is difficult. We will refrain from saying what God would have us say because we are afraid of how others will react to it, or how they might treat us once we have said it. If God gives a word or message to us, the consequences of our not speaking could be much greater than if we do. Speak with boldness when God calls you to speak!

#DailyDevo | Psalm 143:1-8 | Life is an experience of constant change. Like a boat floating on the sea, we are subject to the ebb and flow of the waves, and never in stagnant water. We can either lament the waves, pretend they do not exist, or embrace them and find God in the midst of their rocking. May you not only seek God when the waves are rough, but at all times, trusting that no matter their size, Christ has command over them.

#DailyDevo | Mark 1:21-34 | In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus begins his ministry with actions - healing, curing, and casting out demons. He chooses to serve people before he begins teaching or preaching to them. If we desire to share the Gospel with someone, we usually start by thinking we have to talk or preach to them, and hope that we will say something profound. Yet people must know that you care before they will care about what you have to say. Humble service is often the first step in…

#DailyDevo | Psalm 136:15-18 | It is quite a familiar refrain in the Hebrew Bible: The people go away from God after idols of their own making. We tend to look down on them and think 'How could they be so silly? Why do they keep on pursuing idols of their own making?' And yet, we find today that we are in a constant struggle with the same thing - we just make our idols out of different things. We create an economy, and we serve it as if it were something real. We create idols out of green…
