In 1962,  Joseph Koudelka  embarked on an eight-years’ project, a photo-essay in the tradition of Life magazine on the Gypsies of Czechoslovakla. Composed of portraits where the sitters were facing the camera, Koudelka dealt with the daily lives of Gypsies.
