Johannes Brahms (1833 - 1897)  The music of  represents the furthest development of one strain of Nineteenth-Century Romanticism. Atualmente, Mahler costuma ser visto como um dos maiores compositores, lembrado por ligar a música do século XIX com a do período moderno e por suas grandes sinfonias e ciclo de canções sinfónicas, como, por exemplo, Das Lied von der Erde (A Canção da Terra).
