Yoshitoshi, one of the last great Japanese woodblock printers, produced his series "New Forms of Thirty-Six Ghosts" in the late 1880s and early 1890s. It was the last series he produced before he died. Each color required a separate wood block carving to be transferred onto the print.  Here, Minamoto no Yorimasa fights the nue, a sort of Japanese chimera with a monkey's face, a tanuki's body, a tiger's legs, and a snake's tail.
