Major General Kurt von Schleicher (1882 - 1934); 1926-1929 Chief of the Armed Forces Division in the Ministry of Defense; 1929-1932 Chief of Ministers Office in the Defense Ministry; Defense Minister 1932-1933 1932-1933 Chancellor. Von Schleicher and his wife were murdered on 30 June 1934 by an SS commando during the Night of the Long Knives.
Erwin Rommel. Soldiers captured during his Africa campaign were reported to have been treated humanely. Rommel was linked to the conspiracy to assassinate Hitler. Hitler forced Rommel to commit suicide with a cyanide pill, in return for assurances that Rommel's family would not be persecuted. He was given a state funeral, & his death was said to be a heart attack, following a car crash.
This is Lucian Freud's study named 'Reflection', created in 1956. Freud interests me because of his relevant fascination with understanding the physical and mental mindset of the people he painted; portrayed through how he creates similar compositions of the same people, posing in different positions. I think this is a really interesting aspect of his painting along with the thick brush marks he makes with oil paint, layering the paint to help build depth.
