The Great Snow of 1717 left snowdrifts up to 25' and snowfall of 4-5 feet throughout New England in early Feb., effectively shutting down any activity requiring travel, including Church services. It was noted in many a diary or journal. Why in Genealogy? Your ancestors may we have experienced this long winter of monster snows: it adds context, you can imagine & empathize, & understand the effect of snow in a pre-snow blower era.
