This ball gown (ca. 1898-1900 by Jacques Doucet) is simplistic in design, yet extravagant by the choice of materials used. The sheer overlayer is enhanced by the solid lamé underlayers and a sense of luxury is added by the hidden lace flounce at the hem. Undoubtedly, a woman would make an entrance in this dress, as it is extremely seductive with its form fitting silhouette and low décolleté.
This is another one of Architecture Victor Horta beautiful designs. This is the foot of a stairway located in a building that served as a public meeting house and offices for a Belgium Socialist Party. It was constructed c. 1896-99 and destroyed in 1965. The curves carved in the stone is an amazing detail. It is so sad that this structure would be purposely destroyed.
Hat | Halston (American, 1932-1990) | Date: ca. 1965 | Material: silk | Beginning his career as a milliner, Halston later crossed over to ready-to-wear, promoting minimal design | The hat featured here is a wonderful example of Halston's early milinery work. The shape of the hat is very inventive as well as dramatic with the upturned brim | The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
