Their plan to float down the nearby Salt River in makeshift rafts to the Gila and Colorado Rivers and south to Mexico goes awry when they discover a dry riverbed with only a few puddles of water from recent rains. The former commander of Auschwitz concentration camp, Rudolf Höß, in the witness stand. He had been called as a witness for the defense of Kaltenbrunner, and in his statement admitted the murder of about 2,5 million people during his posting in Auschwitz. In June 1946, he was extradited to Poland, where he was sentenced to death and executed.
