Mieszko I, (born c. 930—died May 25, 992), Prince or duke of Poland.  The first Christian ruler of Poland, Mieszko I is considered the de facto creator of the Polish state. He continued the policy of both his father and grandfather, who were rulers of the pagan tribes located in the area of present-day Greater Poland.

(930-992) King Mieszko of Poland was influenced by his wife, Dobrava, who along with her priest guiding Mieszko into faith in Christ. "King Mieszko was baptized in 966... In time the kings of Poland sought to gain their independence from German rulers, but by then Christianity had taken hold among the people and was on its way to becoming their national faith."
