Explore Toxic Mixed, Connie Noyes and more!

Chicago's 12 Exhibition 2012 recycled debris, resin, wax, enamel on panel 2 diptychs each 84 x 60 inches Connie Noyes creates seductive art from utilitarian and discarded materials to question the often-misperceived ideas of beauty and worth. The title of the piece Heaven’s Directives to Help Save Souls refers to the artist’s need to explore beyond the facade of the shiny, glimmering surface.

Large paintings such as these are often viewed from a distance, but Noyes invites the viewer to examine them from multiple perspectives in order to get her full intention. Look up close, walk around and watch the light shift on the surface, the silver grow dull in places etc. Through conscious interaction with the work, one learns not only more about the artist who made it, but also more about the person who’s looking. In art as in life, true beauty is complicated

The surface is seductive no doubt, but what is contained behind the glitz is even more important to consider. To understand this is to unravel the experience the artist had in creating the work, one rooted in emotion, thought and soulfulness.

The Men were told bring an outfit they would like to see me in and a make-up artist was on set do do my hair and make-up according to their directions. The directions they were given were very open ended. I would have done anything they asked. The Kiss Project is based on the 1890's video by Thomas Edison called "The Kiss".
