Compartmentalizing the faith does not work: if you find that "prayer doesn't work," then try the above. Don't just pick and choose the stuff you "like," do all of it, bit by bit: because they are meant to open up your life, reorient it toward God, and integrate it all by letting Him get into it so He can clear away what needs clearing away and nurture what needs nurturing that's being choked off. You will find your life being enriched on a micro and macro level with the aid of God's grace.
