Doris Day...22-year-old Doris Day was well-known as a singer in 1946 when she was photographed by Gottlieb, but her film career did not begin until two years later. Day was approached about a movie role in 1948 after she sang at a private party at the home of composer Jule Styne who recommended her for a role in Romance on the High Seas. After a failed first marriage, Day had intended to give up show business altogether and return to life with her family in Ohio.
