The color it turns depends on the temperature and composition in the rock.  Filmmaker, Sam Cossman and his team headed to the Pacific Islands of Vanuatu to gain a better understanding of how microbial life exists in extreme heat conditions. The images helped science and provided a stunning up-close view of lava in action.
