Henry Deringer Trade Gun - The original government contract called for Mr. Deringer to produce 2,000 .54 caliber flintlock rifles in 1814. The price set was then just $17 per rifle. But there were also 60 pieces that Deringer was to later modify, smoothboring them to a .65 caliber arm that could be sold in the Indian trade. The unrifled piece could fire equally well small shot, buckshot, or a single patched projectile – handy for hunting.
