An unusual postcard view dated 1909 shows two saree-wrapped young ladies in a studio setting. No blouses can be seen because of the closely draped sarees, and other details are a little indistinct. The effect is quite atmospheric, muted and sublime. A large-scale geometric design on the seated model’s saree glows silkily, while the carpet behind adds a dark richness as well. I’d believe they are sisters, but we really don’t know anything.
