lady janet douglas [the grey lady] Accused of plotting to poison the King James V of Scotland. To convict her, family and servants were questioned and tortured. She was convicted and executed, on the Esplanade at Edinburgh Castle. Her son was made to watch while she was burned alive. She haunts Glamis castle in Scotland.
JANET DOUGLAS, LADY GLAMIS, sister of Archibald Douglas, 6th Earl of Angus, second husband of Margaret Tudor, was burned at the stake for witchcraft on the orders of Margaret Tudor's son, James V, on July 17th, 1537. This took place right on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle while her young son was forced to watch.
