Saint Hosius the Confessor (4th century) was Bishop of Cordoba, Spain for more than 60 years. Holy Emperor Saint Constantine the Great (306-337) deeply revered him and made him privy counsellor. In this position, Saint Hosius advised the emperor to convene the First Ecumenical Council at Nicea in 325. Later, Saint Hosius defended Saint Athanasius of Alexandria (May 2) against emperor Constantius, an advocate of Arian heresy. For this he was exiled and imprisoned. He died in Cordoba. (Aug 27)
