Born Hannah Gluckstein to a wealthy and close-knit London family in 1895, the artist Gluck changed her name (forbidding the addition of quotes or prefix) in her early adulthood. A sharply dressed fixture on the London scene of the 1920s and ’30s, she held a number of highly praised “one-man shows” at the Fine Art Society on London’s Bond Street.
And one wild woman who left the room - Dr. Michael Laurence Dillon was born in 1915 & was the first FTM transsexual to undergo a phalloplasty. Despite his female status, Michael found a Dr. who was willing to give him testosterone & found one of the world's few plastic surgeons. The surgeon performed a double mastectomy & gave him a Dr's note to allow him to change his birth certificate. The surgeon put him in touch with a doctor who was doing reconstructive penis surgery on soldiers.
