The "Lattice House" is a reconstruction/restoration of a typical merchants row house, long and narrow with a small internal courtyard. Incidentally, the layout of my guesthouse was almost identical.

Kongobu-ji zen garden, Koyasan, Japan. I love the precision of the lines in sand gardens with their "islands" of stone. So evocative, and so meaningful.

This reminds me of the central courtyard in my GP surgery in Guildford, believe it or not.  There was nothing more healing than seeing this tranquility while waiting to see your doctor.
