NYT of Feb 17, 1914  reports, "A car was hurled from the elevated structure at Eighth Avenue and 138th Street at 7:30 o'clock last night. It swung in mid-air, suspended by the coupling, which attached it to the five other cars of the train. In his seat in the forward end was the motorman, John H. Becker of 338 Dill Place, Evergreen, Long Island, and a snow pile saved him." The train was empty apart from the driver.
