I think this saying describes the reason that so many pilgrims walk the Camino de Santiago, again and again. Here is a photo of the typical waymark on the Camino Ingles. www.pilgrimagetraveler.com

This is a photo of a "dike" in southern Colorado, by the West Spanish Peak. Dikes were formed many years ago when the mountain was a volcano and poured its lava into the cracks of the earth. The lava solidified, and the earth eroded away and created these tall rock walls that can be seen along the roads and on the trails.

From the Cedar Mesa area in southeast Utah, the "Perfect Kiva" ruins of Bullet Canyon. Ancient Puebloan (native American) people were the predecessors of the current Native American Tribes in the American southwest. Finding this ruin took an amazing effort of hiking about 6 miles (one way) down the rough, amazingly beautiful canyon. Finding the hidden ruin in the cliff side was very, very difficult. Even at the solstice, the site was enshrouded in shade, the perfect place for a desert home!

Hiking in the Colorado mountains, I often see trees growing out of rocks. I loved this scene, and realized that where I have been provides the foundation for who I am, yet it does not keep me from moving forward in my life!
