the help by kathy stockett
Disney.com | The official home for all things Disney
I have just read The Help by Kathryn Stockett.
the cover of i, partridgee we need to talk about alan
Alan Partridge autobiography title revealed
If you love Alan Partridge you'll love his "autobiography". It's barking mad and full of those hilarious comments that make Alan Alan.
two brothers by ben elton, book one in the series twin brother and sister
Two boys are born in 1920s Berlin. As they grow, they share everything - except their blood. This is a great book by Ben Elton, set during the time of the Holocaust and in the 1950s. It was harrowing and moving without being overly sentimental.
the book cover for carry on jeeves by woodhouse, with an image of a man sitting in a chair
This is just one of the many wonderful Jeeves and Wooster books written by P G Wodehouse. They appeal to my sense of humour and I love the one-liners, the put-downs and the descriptions of the upper classes.
the cover to heartstone by c j sansom, with an image of a rose on
I love all the C J Sansom Matthew Shardlake books. In this one Matthew and his assistant travel to Hampshire to investigate a case of possible wrongdoing against ward of court. There's murder, mischief and Bedlam (literally and figuratively) before Matthew can get to the bottom of everything that has been going on. Brilliant book.
the book cover for gently does it
I'm a big fan of the George Gently TV series with Martin Shaw in the title role and the wonderful Lee Ingleby as his sidekick, so I thought I'd read one of the original books. The books are fine but this one was the first, written in 1955, and includes many things that sound very non PC to 21st Century ears! Good book, though.
the book cover for empty cradles
Empty Cradles by Margaret Humphreys is the heart-rending story of children from 1950s children's homes, many of whom still had parents, who were uprooted and sent abroad, mainly to Australia, often to a life of drudgery, violence and abuse.
the reddener jo nesbo book cover
Jo Nesbo is another author I love. This is The Redeemer. Harry Hole investigates the killing of a Salvation Army officer. A contract killer from Serbia is on the loose and he has shot the wrong man...
an orange cat with its eyes closed sitting on top of a black bag and the words bob de straatkat above it
That's Purrfect
This is a wonderful heart-warming book about a homeless drug addict who befriends an unwanted street cat and how they help each other to a better life. Get it here: http://astore.amazon.co.uk/thatspurrfect-21?_encoding=UTF8=3
the wire in the blood by vav mcdermid is shown with scissors sticking out of her face
I love Val McDermid's books. This one features Dr Tony Hill (played by Robson Green in the TV series of the same name). McDermid is adept at entering the minds of deviant criminals.
an old advertisement for hard times, featuring two men shaking hands with another man in the background
an orange and white cat laying on top of a book shelf
Toffee, a big reader.
