Gruffalo's child shadows
Fun with shadows based around Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's story 'The Gruffalo's Child', using a torch, white sheet and paper cutouts. #gruffaloschild #gruffalo #juliadonaldson #shadows #toddleractivities #preschoolactivities #bigbadmouse #bookishplay
three different colored boxes with the words fairy light box and color mixing
Fairy light box and colour mixing
I made a light box from a plastic box, white paper and white LED fairy lights. Some red, blue and yellow acetate filters in cardboard frames allowed my almost 2 year old to experiment with colour mixing. #primarycolours #primarycolors #secondarycolours #secondarycolors #lightbox #scienceforkids #toddlerscience #colormixing #colourmixing

Toddler colour mixing activity
My toddler enjoyed creating new colours by mixing blue, red and yellow which also gave a talking point to build his colour vocabulary. We used Crayola bath dropz but you could use food colouring (although this may stain). #toddleractivities #colourmixing #colormixing #toddlerfun #playathome #toddlerscience
the number blocks play dough mat is made with marshmallows and gummy bears
Numberblocks play dough mat
I printed the numbers 1-4 in colours matching the Numberblocks characters, alongside the corresponding number of adjoining squares. I added arms, legs and faces in the style of the CBeebies Numberblocks characters, and gave my youngest son (18m) play dough cubes in matching colours to place on the mat. My 3 year old enjoyed helping his brother, then making the number shapes from rolls of play dough. #Numberblocks #Playdoughmat #Mathsfortoddlers #CBeebies #Mathsathome

Oobleck
I made a bowl of oobleck for my boys to explore the sensory fun of a non-Newtonian fluid. This mix of cornflour/cornstarch (UK/US) and water acts like a liquid when it moves slowly and like a solid when it is moved quickly due to shear thickening. It's fun to pour, but you can also pick it up quickly and then watch it drizzle through your fingers! #oobleck #cornflour #cornstarch #sensoryplay #nonnewtonianfluid #shearthickening #toddlerscience #toddleractivities #preschoolactivities
