Fans of Queen Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen, should make a beeline to the magnificent early 17th century Hatfield House. The Jacobean palace is the perfect day trip from London or even a half day trip, if you want to escape the hustle and bustle and delve into history. The Ad Gefrin whisky distillery has a lovely bistro and visitor centre but I really recommend taking the distillery tour to see how whisky is made and have a guided whisky tasting at the end! Ad Gefrin is named after the Anglo-Saxon Royal palace and settlement only a few miles away from the distillery, and the visitor centre tells you all about it, with precious artefacts on loan from the British Museum. #Northumberland #England
