Cardinale Gentile Partino da Montefiore (1240-1312). Montefiore dell'Aso, Italy

Gentile Partino, born in Montefiore dell'Aso 1240, died in Lucca in 1312. He was an outstanding diplomat, patron of the arts and one of the most important prelates of the period. He was appointed professor theology at the university of Sorbonne and Papal Legate in Hungary. Gentile Partino commissioned the building and frescoes by Simone Martini of the Cappella S.Martino and S.Ludovico in the lower Basilica of S. Francis of Assisi.
