Frederick Courteney Selous DSO (; 31 December 1851 – 4 January 1917) was a British explorer, officer, hunter, and conservationist, famous for his exploits in South-East Africa. His real-life adventures inspired Sir H. Rider Haggard to create the fictional Allan Quatermain character. Selous was also a friend of Theodore Roosevelt, Cecil Rhodes and Frederick Russell Burnham.

World Champion Ray Amm arrived in Europe from Southern Rhodesia in 1951 with a brace of Nortons and a driving ambition to earn himself a place in the world famous Norton works team. With a huge van, generally driven by his wife Jill, he joined the Continental circus and raced all over Europe.
