The Kings Head in Newport Road as it met Corporation Road on the corner with Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough. This is where Debenhams stands today and Newport Road now starts a few yards further west.

Once standing as the architectural centrepiece of Stewart Park in Middlesbrough, Marton Hall was indeed an imposing building. It was originally erected in 1853 as a palatial home for Henry Bolckow the industrialist and the towns first Mayor. The new stately home had been built on the site of a previous building known as Marton Lodge, which had burnt down in 1832.
