William de Morgan was a key figure of the Arts and Crafts movement and is particularly well known for his work in ceramic decoration. From his studio at the Orange House in Chelsea he designed and produced a bewildering array of ceramic tiles decorated with foliage, animals and birds in the style of William Morris. These two weaver birds sit together on a branch in a blue variation of one of his designs.
