I love Reginald Hill's crime books and this is one of my favourites, about a village abandoned to create reservoir fifteen years ago. Everyone had to move, they even dug up the dead. All except for three little girls who had gone missing, along with the prime suspect ... Beulah Height by Reginald Hill http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0007313179/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_0OZ.tb1HWGR8K

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Deliciously gothic, with every cliché going - spooky house, twins, abandoned babies, mysterious deaths, mad relatives - I loved it (And I love this cover much more than the one that's on my UK copy!)

All the Harry Potter books are favourites. I remember reading this one in double-quick time in case I came across any spoilers online before I'd finished it! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7) by JK Rowling http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BW8UN88/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_x-Hgtb1HFXYM9
