"Negro sharecropper and son who will be resettled, Transylvania Project, Louisiana, 1939." Resettlement projects usually took folks from horrid temporary camps, or sharecroppers / tenant farmers from exhausted farm land, and gave them "40 acres and a mule" or other assistance. These "socialistic" programs were very unpopular with wealthy landowners, who felt they were being deprived of a captive workforce.
