O coração de Viana / The Heart of Viana 🫀
One of Portugal's most enduring and iconic symbols, The Heart of Viana was originally conceived as a religious representation of God's universal love; traditionally hung around the neck, close to the heart. With time, it transcended into the religious realm and became widely accepted as a signifier of love between two beings. Here, it's interpreted in one of its most traditional forms - handcrafted filigree - in Electric Apron (2014 - 2021), a work by Arabel Lebrusan. #contemporaryart

A bespoke bangle in homage to the late artist Breon O'Casey
"It was scary to intervene on work from another artist," our Creative Director Arabel Lebrusan admits. "So I took a surgent approach: Study the work and only then create an intervention from a place of empathy. It was my mission to respect O'Casey by honouring the rooted, handmade, rough-around-the-edges tone of his silver jewellery, grain-setting the birds with anthill garnets and imperial diopsides to embody the anarchic way he might have set his own jewellery with gemstones." #artjewels
When Death Becomes Beauty | A one-off pearl necklace
When Death Becomes Beauty • pearl necklace • Arabel Lebrusan • 2008 The title of this work references the conflict between aesthetics and ethics.
