Novel Ideas: "No Talking" Common Core Novel Unit

This "Novel Idea" resource is geared toward helping teachers help their students dig deeper into texts as required by the Common Core. Many schools require specific programs, but this resource is meant to be used with read aloud "mentor texts". This allows ALL students access to higher level thinking--no matter what their independent reading level is! The resource is open ended enough that it can be used with your whole class, with a small group, or even for an independent book study.

Looking for a good project to focus on "the pillars of good character"? Our classes read "The Tale of Despereaux". Pillars were made for each character trait. Through brainstorming, we came up with examples of each of the traits from our reading. Great lesson for character building. So many things can be done with this book. Above the board you can see that students drew a picture of Despereaux and wrote their own examples of each trait from the story.
