Simply Orthodox ☦
Generally, in the Orthodox Christian tradition, icons of the Theotokos show her holding her Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. She is the Mother of God, and so it is right to represent her as a Mother holding the infant Jesus Who is God. However there are a few exceptions. In this rare icon Theotokos is shown without Christ. Most Holy Theotokos, our Beloved Mother, save us through your intercessions to your Son, our Saviour Lord Jesus Christ! Amen.

Emily Balivet crafts intoxicating slices of life, often Celtic and medieval, and always emotive and delicious. I own this print ("The Nestling - Breast feeding Mother Goddess"), and my only regret is that I did not discover this artist before the original was gone. -- Eve.
