International GCSE Art Sketchbook: Coursework Project 98%

Observational drawing is a big part of IGCSE Art. For her first sketchbook page Manisha arranged shells within cardboard boxes (giving her ample opportunity to practise the depiction of space), contrasting natural forms with the angular edges of boxes. She used a wash of earthy ochres and blues to create an acrylic ground, and used graphite and white paint over this to apply light and dark tone to the organic shell forms.

Visual Journal Case Study: This outstanding International GCSE Art and Design Coursework project was completed by Manisha Mistry in 2003, while studying IGCSE Art and Design (CIE 0400) at ACG Strathallan College, Auckland, New Zealand. Nice to see how she was inspired by both nature and art. Could inspire some sketchbook studies in the galleries.

painting of weaving This is a great exercise for art students: a painting of a weaving, with every strand of flax painted / drawn using a different medium or technique. It encourages creativity with media, as well as allows student to practise their blending and application of tone. The ‘under/over’ nature of the weaving also helps students understand how to create depth and ‘space’ within their drawings.
