The Giant African Land Snail (Achatina fulica), is one of the largest terrestrial gastropods and have an average lifespan of about 5-7 years. The species is native to East Africa, but it has been widely introduced to other parts of the world through the pet trade, as a food resource, and by accidental introduction. This species is on the list of the 100 most harmful invasive alien species in the world and have been found in Asian regions & islands, Australia, Bangladesh, Caribbean islands, China, Fiji, Hawaii, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Sri Lanka, Vanuatu and Vietnam.
