Folk art: "Oh Kali, my Mother full of Bliss! Enchantress of the almighty Shiva! In Thy delirious joy Thou dancest, clapping Thy hands together! Thou art the Mover of all that move, and we are but Thy helpless toys." Ramakrishna Paramahansa
"When the Wright Brothers thought about flying, everybody thought they were crazy. I have this crazy idea to see a world without violence, without stress. I'm so happy that so many of you have joined me in this dream. It may appear to be far-fetched but we need to dream first. Then, one day, either in this generation or the next, it will come true." -- Sri Sri's opening remarks at the Hangout
Today begins the Hindu holiday Navaratri, the "Nine Nights" to celebrate Devi the Divine Mother Goddess in the forms of Durga, Laxmi, and Sarasvati. Durga is the "demon-slayer"-we must slay the negative tendencies of our minds to move forward in peace, as well as external obstacles. Laxmi is the goddess of prosperity- not just material wealth, but a spiritual wealth of virtues like compassion and devotion. Sarasvati is the higher knowledge that we attain as we purify and open.
