This is particularly good in our experience with the inquisitive residents who are intrigued by the interactive activity table but lack confidence to begin with, particular on remembering memories on a google earth tour. It’s a great app to rebuild confidence on memory with simple interactive games on a huge screen that get your residents thinking and believing that they can remember some things again.

We find Jigsaw Puzzles are great for residents of all abilities. From residents who’ve had a stroke or have mid-stages of dementia and need to increase their confidence and hand eye coordination. Our personal favourite touch screen activity table app is Wordsearch by developer Wixot. It’s much more smooth and slick compared to the other word search apps, there are so many different challenges, the graphics are far clearer and the letters are easy for the elderly to read. It’s great for residents of all abilities, fantastic for hand-eye coordination, residents who can’t hold a pen anymore, stretching while seated or standing and of course keeping the brain active.

It’s so simple, but you get so much from it… Youtube. This is fantastic to use with elderly residents of all mental and physical abilities. A shortlist of uses – Dance nights, sing-along, music therapy, reminiscence through music Sporting events current and historic, increase social interaction and keep up to date with current sporting fixtures, or remember their favourite cup final. Dance therapy, physical exercise. Relaxation sounds and visuals. Nature programs or specific interests.

It’s great as a starter app for any resident who needs to build up their confidence with touch screen technology. It’s great to give anyone to sooth and calm. It’s great for mid-later stages dementia residents who struggle with other activities. You’ll find some residents will be on it for much longer than you’d think.

Inspired Inspirations App of the week is “A Better Visit”. This is a dementia-specific app made in Australia. The engagement we have seen with mid/later stages of dementia is absolutely fantastic. Your residents can piece together photos of famous people from the past, play bowls and for the more advanced stages of dementia, your residents can colour pictures in or clean a virtual window to reveal a famous landmark.

We don’t have a specific favourite Chess app, however, there are so many free chess apps on the Play store. Some you can even play online vs other people. It’s a favourite game amongst so many people, so to be able to play against the computer or take it in turns against someone else in the home is fantastic, especially if a resident finds it difficult to hold the pieces nowadays.
